Rockabilly and rock and roll in the 80s

If you have come this far it is because you are a rock and roll lover, like us. In this article we will try to let you know a little more about one of the main subgenres of rock and roll.

When we talk about Rockabilly we place ourselves in the 1950s. Rockabilly is known for being one of the first subgenres of Rock and Roll. The name comes from rock and hillbilly, which refers to a variety of folk music known as hillbilly music, which became fashionable ten years before rockabilly. This subgenre was born in the south of the United States. It declined in the 1960s but, as it could not be otherwise, revived in the golden age of the eighties.

Sound from another planet

The rockabilly sound is characterized by always including in its scores a guitar, drums and the double bass slap that gives it its characteristic rhythm. Of course a solo voice with a great variety of echoes, reverb and hic ups. It could be said that the voices stand out for their sensuality.

Rockabilly in the 80's

This musical genre has had periods of great popularity and others of more decadence. Of course, in ropadelos80 we are interested in remembering its passage through this wonderful decade.

In the 80's truly wild bands emerged, much more than in the 50's. Some of them like Stray Cats, Restless, The Polecats, among many others. Some of them take the influence of the British punk rock of the 70s. As we already know, in the 80's Rockabilly takes its revival period and with it great stars and exponents are created in the music scene as The Cramps or The Meteors, of which you will surely have heard.

Rockabilly in the 21st century

Nowadays there are different types of groups such as those that focus more on paraphernalia than on music, and some others focus more on recovering the rhythms that were used in the fifties. Some of the seconded ones are Rebel Cats, Black Jacks or Los Calavera.

Now that we know a little more about this interesting musical sub-genre, we are ready to put on our bell-bottoms and hit the dance floor to move to the beat of a good song by The Meteors!
